Edward Hopper 'Rooms by the Sea,' 1951. (Oil on Canvas 29 x 40 inches).
Edward Hopper's 'Rooms by the Sea' struck me for several reasons. The first being its lack of a human figure. The hint of furniture in the background suggests some form of human presence, however this is overpowered by the haunting silence created by the ray of light entering the room. The juxtaposition between the ocean and the room was also captivating and provided several concepts for me to experiment with.
